Governor Gusnar Ismail Meets Bar Bar Alliance Protesters to Discuss Mining and Scholarships

GORONTALO, Kominfotik – Governor Gusnar Ismail, met with protesters from the Bar Bar Alliance who staged a demonstration at the Gorontalo Governor’s Office on Thursday (4/2/2026). Led by Field Coordinator Usman Djauhari and orator Kevin Tolinggi, the group presented several demands regarding the mining sector, student scholarships, and infrastructure development.

During the audience, protesters highlighted alleged misconduct by certain provincial officials regarding mining authorities. They also questioned the legality of PT. PETS, which they deem problematic, and addressed the ongoing friction between PT. PETS and the Dharma Tani Village Credit Cooperative (KUD).

Furthermore, the alliance demanded that PT. Gorontalo Mineral in Bone Bolango Regency provide space for local miners. They urged the provincial government to immediately issue People’s Mining Licenses (IPR) and ensure that permit distribution is equitable across the region, from Bone Bolango to Pohuwato.

Governor Gusnar Ismail’s Response:
Internal Investigation: Governor Gusnar confirmed he has ordered the Inspectorate to investigate data regarding the Head of the Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Department, who is suspected of colluding with private companies.

Mining Permits (IPR): He explained that the issuance of IPRs can only proceed after the Ministerial Decree (Kepmen) for People’s Mining Areas (WPR) is released and depends on the readiness of the cooperatives managing the local mines.

Legal Disputes: Regarding the conflict between PT. PETS and KUD Dharma Tani, the Governor stated that this is a legal matter with an existing Supreme Court ruling. As Governor, he cannot intervene and advised dissatisfied parties to seek further legal recourse. He emphasized that he has already warned companies not to infringe upon community rights.

Scholarship Reform: The Governor plans to reformulate the selection system to make it more optimal and promised to review the process to ensure scholarships are targeted toward students who truly need them.

Infrastructure Challenges: Finally, the Governor addressed the planned road access to Pinogu District, noting that the project is currently hindered by budget constraints and a ministerial ban due to its location within a National Park area.
