Governor Gusnar Ismail and Pangdam XIII/Merdeka Accelerate Pohuwato Rice Field Expansion

​Gorontalo City, Kominfotik – Gorontalo Governor, in collaboration with the Commander of Kodam XIII/Merdeka, Major General Mirza Agus, is actively accelerating the progress of rice field expansion in Pohuwato Regency. This initiative was discussed during a coordination meeting held at the Aston Hotel in Gorontalo City on Saturday (2/28/2026).

​The Governor was accompanied by the Regional Secretary of Gorontalo Province, Sofian Ibrahim, along with heads of relevant regional departments (OPD). Also in attendance were the Commander of Korem 133/Nani Wartabone, Brigadier General Sihotang, the Regent of Pohuwato, Saipul Mbuinga, the Dandim 1313/Pohuwato, and other relevant officials.

​Progress Report as of February 27, 2026
​According to the latest data from February 27, 2026, the progress of the rice field expansion project is as follows:
​Land Preparation: 523 hectares have been formed with bunds (pematang), totaling 37 meters in length.
​Land Tillage: 153 hectares of land have been processed.
​Target Areas: The expansion currently covers only two districts, Randangan and Patilanggio, out of the six districts targeted.
​Supporting Infrastructure Realization (Focused on Randangan District):
​Drainage Canals: 18,345 meters constructed.
​Farm Business Roads (JUT): 180 meters constructed.

​Tertiary Irrigation Network (JIT): 5 meters constructed.
​Water Gates: One unit installed.
​Strategic Directions and Challenges
​During the meeting, Governor Gusnar Ismail addressed several key issues regarding vegetation and existing fishponds (empang) in the area:
​Vegetation Management: He suggested prioritizing areas with light vegetation to accelerate overall progress.

​Fishpond Coordination: For areas containing fishponds, he requested collaboration with the River Basin Organization (Balai Wilayah Sungai) specifically for water drainage processes.
​Land Ownership: He highlighted issues regarding land status involving productive coconut trees and asked the Head of the Agricultural Department to conduct a thorough territorial assessment.

​Increased Oversight and Collaboration
​In the same meeting, Pangdam Mirza Agus instructed the Dandim 1313/Pohuwato to detail the technical aspects regarding the accelerated steps for rice field expansion. He also requested that the Danrem 133/Nani Wartabone increase supervision to ensure that the acceleration efforts are carried out actively and collaboratively.
