The Vice Governor of Gorontalo, Idah Syahidah Rusli Habibie, has called upon Civil Servants (ASN) to prioritize environmental preservation. This message was delivered during the first working assembly of 2026 for the Gorontalo Provincial Government, held at the Museum Purbakala grounds on Monday (1/5/2026).
Vice Governor Idah emphasized that one of her personal resolutions for 2026 is to reduce plastic waste. To achieve this, she shared that she has made it a habit to carry a tumbler and reusable shopping bags from home when visiting traditional markets or modern retail stores.
”My resolution for 2026 is to bring a tumbler and shopping bag everywhere I go. I ask all ASNs starting today—especially the women—to keep reusable bags in their office bags to use whenever they go shopping,” Idah stated firmly.
Environmental and Financial Efficiency
According to the Vice Governor, using reusable bags is not only about saving the environment but also about household budget efficiency. She highlighted a detail often overlooked by the public: the cost of plastic bags at modern retailers.
The Hidden Cost: Many people don’t realize that plastic bags can cost up to IDR 500 per piece.
The Impact: “If you use four bags in one shopping trip, that’s IDR 2,000. Value your money; budget efficiency shouldn’t just happen at the office, but also at home,” she explained.
”Smart Shopping” Advice
Beyond environmental concerns, Vice Governor Idah urged ASNs to be “wise consumers.” she warned against falling for “Serba-Serbu” (flash sale/discount) promotions without considering the actual urgency or existing stock at home.
Key Tips for Wise Spending:
Check Inventory: Don’t be tempted by store promotions only to realize you already have plenty of similar items in your cupboards at home.
Financial Literacy: “We must be prudent and smart with our money. If you cannot manage your finances intelligently, you won’t be able to provide the best for your children,” she concluded.
