Bone Bolango Regency, Kominfotik – President Prabowo has officially announced that Indonesia has achieved food self-sufficiency. This declaration was made during a national grand harvest event and a virtual meeting with regional heads on Wednesday (1/7/2026).
Following the announcement from Lamahu Village, South Bulango District, the Governor of Gorontalo, Gusnar Ismail, affirmed the province’s readiness to maintain this status.
”Following this event, we carry a new spirit—that we have now achieved food self-sufficiency, and maintaining it is our collective duty,” Gusnar stated.
Key Initiatives for Sustainability
To support the national food self-sufficiency program, Governor Gusnar highlighted several ongoing and upcoming strategic projects in Gorontalo:
New Rice Field Expansion: The provincial government is currently executing a “rice field printing” (land conversion) program covering 5,600 hectares within the Randangan Dam irrigation area.
Technological Support: Farmers in Gorontalo have been equipped with modern agricultural machinery (Alsintan), including John Deere tractors provided by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Integrated Poultry Downstreaming: Within the next one to two months, Gorontalo is projected to receive a IDR 1.4 trillion integrated poultry downstreaming program from President Prabowo. This investment will be distributed across four regencies:
Gorontalo Regency
North Gorontalo
Boalemo
Bone Bolango
”God willing, we can realize this. We welcome this news with joy and are committed to sustaining food self-sufficiency for years to come,” Gusnar concluded.
A Vision of National Independence
According to President Prabowo, achieving food self-sufficiency is the result of the hard work of farmers, supported by ministries and regional governments to realize independent food security. He emphasized that food independence is a vital part of national sovereignty, requiring Indonesia to be self-sufficient not only in rice but also in various other commodities.
