GORONTALO CITY, Kominfotik – The site for the construction of the Gorontalo Grand Mosque Islamic Center will become an integrated destination area. This was revealed during a meeting between the Gorontalo Provincial Government and the Islamic Center Foundation, chaired directly by Governor Gusnar Ismail at the governor’s official residence, Friday (9/12/2025).

Wahyudin Katili, a board member of the Islamic Center Foundation, explained that this integrated destination area will combine the Gorontalo Grand Mosque Islamic Center with several supporting facilities and tourist areas. Through this concept, it is expected that the grand mosque location will become a new center of growth.

The Head of BAPPPEDA (Regional Development Planning Agency) of Gorontalo Province also revealed that, so far, there is no final location for the construction of the grand mosque. Wahyudin stated that the location will be directed towards urban development, taking into account population density, land availability, and other social aspects.

The Islamic Center Foundation is targeting the groundbreaking or official start of the mosque’s construction soon. Wahyudin said that progress towards the groundbreaking is going quite well.

“InshaAllah, very soon the governor himself will launch the groundbreaking ceremony with the laying of the first stone,” he said.
