GORONTALO REGENCY, Kominfotik – Governor Gusnar Ismail acted swiftly by instructing Bulog Gorontalo to immediately distribute Government Food Reserve (CPP) rice to the residents of Huntu Village, Batudaa District, Gorontalo Regency. Based on reports received by Governor Gusnar, some residents in the village are currently consuming bitule (wild yam) as their daily staple food.

For the people of Gorontalo living near forest or hilly areas, bitule serves as an alternative food reserve during the dry season or times of scarcity. Bitule, which has the scientific name Dioscorea hispida, is found growing wild in the forests of Gorontalo. This yam has a bitter taste and is known to contain chemical compounds that are toxic if not processed properly.

Governor Gusnar Ismail, accompanied by Regent Sofyan Puhi, distributed CPP rice assistance in Hunggaluwa and Tenilo Sub-districts. In Hunggaluwa Sub-district, the number of beneficiary families reached 850 households, while in Tenilo there were 300 households. Each family received 30 kilograms of rice covering the allocation period for July, August, and September.
