Governor Gusnar Urges University of Gorontalo to Take a Strategic Role in Regional Development

Gorontalo Regency, Kominfotik – Governor Gusnar Ismail has called upon the University of Gorontalo (UG) to take a strategic role in addressing regional development challenges. This message was delivered during his address at the Inauguration of the Rector of the University of Gorontalo for the 2026–2030 period on Saturday (1/10/2026).

Governor Gusnar stated that the academic forum is an equal community space, as the entire academic community already understands the dynamics of Gorontalo. He emphasized that the University of Gorontalo holds a strategic position in driving regional progress.

Historical Consistency and Future Competition
Gusnar reflected on his early involvement during the founding of the University of Gorontalo, noting his place in the institution’s historical journey. According to him, UG’s long history is a testament to its consistency and resilience in building higher education in Gorontalo.

He cited the University of Gorontalo as one of the best higher education institutions in the Sulawesi region, which serves as a fundamental asset in facing the era of competition. This era, he noted, is characterized by:
Democratization and Digitalization.
The demand for speed and independence.
The need for high competitiveness.
Aligning with Regional Priorities
Furthermore, the Governor urged the University of Gorontalo to remain responsive to regional development needs, specifically in two key sectors:
Mining: Developing expertise for responsible resource management.

Livestock Downstreaming: Supporting the province’s transition toward integrated industrial poultry and livestock.
Gusnar believes these sectors require a “ready-to-use” workforce with specialized competencies that the university is well-positioned to provide.
