Gorontalo City, Kominfotik – The Gorontalo Provincial Government has set an ambitious target for corn production, aiming to reach 1.5 million tons in 2026. This target is designed to align with and support the national food self-sufficiency program.
The announcement was made by the Head of the Agricultural Department, Muljady Mario, during a simultaneous national corn harvest event organized by the Indonesian National Police (Polri) across 36 regional police forces on Thursday (1/8/2026). In Gorontalo, the event was attended virtually by Governor Gusnar Ismail, Gorontalo Regional Police Chief Irjen Pol. Widodo, and Vice Governor Idah Syahidah Rusli Habibie.
Collaborative Execution
Muljady Mario explained that this initiative is governed by an agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Police Headquarters. At the local level, this is implemented through a close partnership between the Department of Agriculture and the Gorontalo Regional Police.
Key Achievements in 2025:
New Planting Areas: Gorontalo successfully executed the development of approximately 27,000 hectares of new planting areas in collaboration with the police.
Harvest Statistics: From a total harvest area of 259,490 hectares, the province produced 1.2 million tons of corn.
Strategy for the 1.5 Million Ton Goal
To increase production from 1.2 million tons to 1.5 million tons in 2026, the government will focus on:
Land Optimization: Revitalizing land that was previously unproductive due to flooding or drought.
Increased Planting Intensity: Maximizing the number of planting cycles per year.
National Supply Chain: Nearly 99 percent of Gorontalo’s corn production is currently supplied to livestock feed centers throughout Indonesia.
Regional Nuances in Harvesting
Regional Police Chief Irjen Pol. Widodo noted that today’s harvest covered approximately 10 hectares. He explained that while the ideal harvest window in Gorontalo typically falls between November and December, the event proceeded to demonstrate synergy, despite the seasonal differences compared to other regions in Indonesia.
The provincial harvest event was centered in South Tunggulo Village, Tilongkabila District, Bone Bolango Regency, serving as a symbol of the strong cooperation between the police and the local government in bolstering the agricultural sector.
