
GORONTALO CITY, Kominfotik – Governor Gusnar delivered a press statement declaring that the tsunami threat had ended and no tsunami occurred in Gorontalo. As of 5:32 p.m. WITA, Governor Gusnar, along with the provincial secretary and several OPD’s heads, continued monitoring the updates from BMKG through a Zoom meeting at the Governor’s Command Center post.
On this occasion, Gov.Gusnar stated that in the southern part of Gorontalo and the Sulawesi Sea in the northern regions of Anggrek, Kwandang, and the surrounding areas, no tsunami occurred as a result of the earthquake in Russia. He also added that his ranks are still awaiting the official announcement from central BMKG declaring the tsunami threat over. Gusnar explained.
Previously, in an early warning issued by BMKG, Gorontalo was predicted to be affected by a tsunami around 4:39 p.m. WITA. However, by 5:32 p.m., no such event had taken place.Gov. Gusnar encouraged all residents to pray together and urged residents to remain alert but not to be panic while awaiting BMKG’s official announcement to lift the tsunami warning. He had earlier instructed local government officials, village and urban neighborhood authorities, military personnel, police, and subdistrict heads to stay close to the community to monitor the situation.
During the monitoring, it was reported that some other regions that received early warnings—such as Papua—only experienced a slight sea level rise of approximately 0.2 meters. The tsunami warning alert zone previously issued by BMKG included the Talaud Islands, North Halmahera, several areas in West Papua and Papua, as well as Gorontalo City.
