Gorontalo City, Kominfotik – Ehime Prefecture, Japan and Gorontalo gov’t continued to strengthen the cooperation in new technology
of lindi waste use at Talumelito, Gorontalo Regency. They noted that the liquid produced from lindi waste (accumulated waste) potentially could pollute the environment if not properly managed well.
Vice Gov. idah welcomed them in her office on thursday (3/13/2025).
This collaboration has been ongoing since 2007, with an MoU signed in 2022 regarding environmental cooperation. Their visit today is focused on addressing an urgent environmental issue in Gorontalo, particularly lindi waste management.
According to Idah, the Gorontalo is urgent to take advantage of this partnership, due to the dangers of lindi waste which appears black and, when mixed with rainwater, contains harmful substances such as heavy metals and organic compounds that can degrade groundwater quality and river ecosystems. Idah emphasized that she will report this meeting result to Governor Gusnar Ismail for further action.
The Ehime team emphasized that Gorontalo was chosen as the sole location for this lindi waste management project even it involves advanced technology, the costs are substantial, making it a long-term investment and they also offered subsidies, considering the current financial constraints and the need for budget efficiency.
On this occasion Vice gov. Idah also added that as long as it does not conflict with the law and regulations, this project can be realized because this initiative is crucial. We will also seek approval from the council office (DPRD)
Accompanying Vice gov Idah there were also Provincial Secretary Sofian Ibrahim, Acting Assistant II Jamal Nganro, Head of Bappeda Wahyudin Katili, Head of the Public Works and Housing Office Aries Ardyanto, and other relevant officials.
